Reviews
Hoff's came recommended to me by a friend, and of course I did my own research here on Yelp before dropping in. As I have said in other reviews, Salisbury is not a culinary destination, or really a destination for anything. That said this is a solid mom and pops kind of place, well known for their pork chop sandwiches and battered french fries. Located on West Innes Street well out of downtown in an older building. Private lot parking. Inside and outside dining. Not very big on the inside and seems pretty cramped. Service was on the slow side considering there were maybe only a few other tables occupied when I visited. The menu is a small laminated single page, and mainly focused on their pork chop sandwiches, and a few other sandwiches. Some items had been marked out on the menu with a marker and were no longer available. One being the foot long hot dog. The food. Since pork chop sandwiches seems to be the big thing here I got the classic pork chop sandwich with sauce on the side, battered fries, and a hot dog. You have the option to get your pork chop "sauced" or plain. I got mine plain with sauce on the side, that way I could evaluate each one. The food was out in a reasonable amount of time, hot and fresh. The sandwich was absolutely huge, with the pork chop hanging an inch off the bun on each side. Sauce on the side, and hot dog all as ordered. The pork chop was indeed delicious, nice and tender, cooked to perfection, and not greasy. The sauce was an interesting take on mustard and vinegar with a little pepper added. I can't say I've had one exactly like it. The vinegar was definitely obvious, but meshed well with the other ingredients. Very nice. The fries were amazing. They appear to have been fried twice, though I didnt confirm this. They are a reason to visit by themselves. Again, nice and crispy perfection, and delicious. The hot dog could have stood on its own. Yep, it was that good. The dog seemed to be decent quality, not a cheap red one, had a nice flavor. Chili and slaw were solid, and I found myself wanting another one even though I was absolutely stuffed. The food was excellent all around, and the portion sizes were large. I think I gained 5 pounds just from this one stop! The price was nice, and I doubt you can get better food for a better price anywhere. When I'm in the area I will definitely return.
Was in Salisbury again and I could hear Hoff's big ol' Pork Chop sandwich calling. Was a good time of the day to stop in since the lunch hour was over.since my wife and myself have been by a time or so.The dipped one has been growing on me.I got the large one dipped white Red slaw and some onion rings. My food came out quickly.Had not hardly had time to sip on my drink much.My food was hot and good.My onion rings where the frozen kind but still good.I got me a side of ranch dressing to dip them in.I will look forward to my next visit.
Trip 2 Tried a double burger with breaded fries and a cold cheerwine Burger was huge, cooked well Found that I was not as big a fan of the fries on my 2nd trip Of my 2 trips I preferred the burger Paid more than I would of liked but it was ok
I've had this place on my must try list for years. Now I regret not eating here earlier. I've driven to Mt Airy for the famous pork chop sandwich up there and honestly thought it was horrible. But the Fried Pork Chop at Hoff's is ridiculously good. Super tender chop with a nice crispy batter that holds up well to the tangy mustard-vinegar sauce if you order it dipped. You can also get it dry, even grilled, and made with your choice of mayo, lettuce and tomato, or with mustard, chili and slaw. But this is hands down a destination must stop if you are passing through Salisbury. The hot dog was great too, mainly due to their amazing chili. It tasted like a tangy barbecue sauce was mixed into the meat. The most flavorful chili I've ever had on a hot dog. The burger was big and juicy and also worth the 40-mile drive from Winston-Salem. We ordered the battered fries to go with the food and they were quite unique. A thick cut steak fry that is hand battered. It reminded me of zucchini fries, but with a potato inside. It's unique and worth a try. Cheerwine on tap and Diet Cheerwine in the bottle. It's Salisbury, home of Cheerwine, so glad they represent the local flavors.
On one of our first trips into Salisbury we found this little mom n pop restaurant based on reviews on here. We are glad we did. We went in a Saturday early afternoon and it was very busy. We felt bad as I believe they had one waitress and a few in back preparing food. My wife and I both had the pork chop sandwich dipped and the twice battered fries. Excellent and tasted really good. We never had a pork chop sandwich before and it was excellent and the sauce it is dipped in was very unique and extremely tasty. We will definitely back if we go back up to the Salisbury area.
